We are delighted to welcome Liam Robinson, Eddy O'Dwyer and Frances Kelly back to Stokes Collection Café for an evening of traditional folk music. Look forward to hearing banjos, concertinas, guitar and some lovely vocals from this super trio.

Come along for a special swinging Valentine’s evening of first-rate jazz from the Chris Ingham Quartet featuring trumpeter Paul Higgs as they celebrate the warm and melodic music of Hoagy Carmichael. Packed with the wry songs and sentimental stories of one of America’s most enduring songwriters, Hoagy Carmichael’s songs are beloved for their warmth and wit shot through with the hot jazz style of his friend, legendary cornettist Bix Beiderbecke.
This show, which recently sold-out at Ronnie Scott’s, will feature some of Hoagy’s rich and varied songbook as featured on this quartets acclaimed CD ‘Hoagy’, a worthy successor to the album made by Georgie Fame and Annie Ross 30 years ago. Wry, wise, sentimental, down-home and sophisticated.

We are so excited to welcome American jazz vocalist Marlene Verplanck to our Collection Café for an evening of wonderful music.
Transfixing audiences from her first note to her last, Marlene Verplanck returns to Lincoln for an unmissable evening of jazz standards supported by the great pianist/accompanist John Pearce.
She is one of those hidden American national treasures, with her brilliant delivery and bell-like tone she establishes a rapport with her audience few vocalists achieve, not surprising, because as a young singer she performed in the Dorsey Orchestra as well as being a backing singer for Frank Sinatra.

Veteran of over 1000 gigs, fiddler Tom Kitching stands at the leading edge of the English folk scene. He has a unique, vibrant style, full of exuberance, emotion and wit.
For his gig at our Collection Café, Tom aims to explore English music – that is, any piece of music written by someone from England, across a range of styles and time periods. His fiddle will be joined by Marit Fält’s latmandola, flute and clarinet music from Freya Rae, and a little percussion form Jim Molyneaux.

Talented sister team Laura and Mary-Anne Ratcliffe have been performing together professionally for the past two and a half years. But since they were children they have been singing together, and Laura would play the piano and Mary-Anne the guitar. Now, they deliver acoustic music and beautiful harmonies as Mia and the Moon.

The Cotton Club was a notorious nightclub which operated in New York during America’s prohibition era, and was known for hiring some of the best entertainers of the day, from Ella Fitzgerald to Nat King Cole. On Friday 1st May, we will be bringing the Cotton Club back to life, organising a party at our Collection Café of which even Gatsby would approve.
Guests will be welcomed by a delicious cocktail, before taking to the dance floor, where our vintage dance team will be teaching guests how to Charleston. Our superb swing band will get toes tapping with some live swing music from the roaring 1920’s to 1940’s.
Tuesday 12 May Lincoln Jazz Week with Nicola Farnon free
Widely recognised as one of the classiest and most accomplished swing vocalists in the UK, Nicola Farnon is also an acclaimed double bassist.
The late, great Humphrey Lyttleton stated, on his highly acclaimed BBC Radio 2 Show ‘The Best of Jazz’: “She’s a remarkable performer on stage, a fine singer and an outstandingly swinging and propulsive bass player with an outgoing personality to match… A sure fire hit!”
This is a free event as part of Lincoln Jazz Week.
Fri 10/07/15 Big Screen Trio 7.30pm £10
The fact that David Newton has been the winner of ‘Jazz Pianist of the Year’ in the British Jazz Awards on no less than 10 occasions simply confirms most fans’ opinions that he really is one of the heavyweights of UK jazz.
For this event at our Collection Café, David teams up with Matt Skelton on drums and Tom Farmer on double bass to form the Big Screen Trio. Gig-goers can look forward to evening of music from the movies, all played in serious swinging style.
